Innovation for HIV Epidemic Control

Oct 17, 2024

Lack of access to readily available HIV prevention tools among underserved communities increases the communities’ vulnerability to HIV. To address this, the USAID Controlling HIV Epidemic for Key and Underserved Populations II (USAID CHEKUP II) Activity is embracing innovation to increase the communities’ access to HIV prevention tools and services.

The Activity is implemented by Coalition Health Zambia (formerly John Snow Health Zambia) with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

In this picture, the USAID CHEKUP II Activity’s Deputy Chief of Party, Lubinda Chingumbe (right), shows the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi, the contents of an innovative HIV Prevention Kit. This was last week at the launch of mobile clinics in Lusaka.

This HIV prevention kit is designed to provide underserved populations with tangible HIV prevention tools and information to enhance their health and well-being.

The package contains an HIV self-test kit, female condoms, and information, education, and communication (IEC) materials on sexually transmitted infections, proper condom use, and HIV prevention.

With this innovation, the Activity is helping the Government to increase coverage for HIV prevention and treatment services, especially among underserved populations.
