Background

John Snow Health Limited (JSH), a public health organization dedicated to improving the provision of public health services in Zambia and the region, is recruiting for a Connector- Parenting Program for the USAID-funded Controlling HIV Epidemic for Key and Underserved Populations (CHEKUP II). CHEKUP II aims to address the needs of people living with HIV (PLHIV) and those most at risk of acquiring HIV and contribute to HIV mitigation and epidemic control. In addition, the program seeks to improve the health outcomes of priority populations in the highest HIV-burden provinces of Zambia.

Description

The Connector – Parenting will directly support the DREAMS Site Coordinator in the roll-out and implementation of the parenting program.  The Connector- Parenting is responsible for mobilizing and organizing parents and guardians of Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) for the parenting program. She will facilitate the training of parents and guardians on the parenting program and ensure a positive relationship between the AGYWs and their parents, guardians or caregivers.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Manage the day-to-day implementation of the parenting program, mobilizing and organizing AGYW’s parents and guardians
  • Support parenting facilitators and ensure they implement the parenting program within specific sites and with fidelity. Ensure program targets are met, and relevant project documents are completed.
  • Participate in weekly and monthly reporting meetings at the DREAMS Centre
  • Provide support to up to five DREAMS Mentors who will be running Safe Spaces within specific sites
  • Support DREAMS Mentors and ensures that they are running quality, Safe Spaces and meeting the needs of the AGYW
  • Work closely with the DREAMS Site Coordinator to ensure that parents and guardians have a positive relationship and a consistent protective factor for the AGYW against various adverse health and social outcomes.
  • Document parenting program key achievements, best practices, and lessons learned and shares them with the DREAMS Site Coordinator.
  • Submit Parenting Programme weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual progress reports.
  • Adhere to JSH personnel, financial, operations, and fraud management policies.
  • Participate in any other tasks as requested by their supervisor.

 

Qualifications

  • Certificate in Social Work, psychosocial counseling, social sciences, or health-related field. A diploma in social sciences or health-related sciences will be an added advantage.
  • Must have a Psychosocial Counseling Certificate and the capacity to conduct Rapid HIV Testing in line with national guidelines
  • Must be resident within the specific site for easy travel to DREAMS Centers and Safe Spaces (i.e., Chipata, Kabwe, Kasama, Kapiri Mposhi)
  • At least two years of experience working with adolescents and young women in HIV prevention and service provision
  • Experience working on a parenting or associated program
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills (English) and the local language is spoken in the implementation site or community
  • An empathetic, devoted, and respectful individual with good interpersonal communication, team building, and writing skills
  • Must be assertive and energetic
  • Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.

 

Supervision and Reporting

The Connector-Parenting Programme will work under the guidance and supervision of the DREAMS Site Coordinator
